MnSCU and Sun Microsystems, Inc. recently finalized two agreements; the "Sun Microsystems, Inc.- Education/Non-Profit End User Purchase Agreement" and the "ScholarPAC III Software License Agreement." These agreements qualify all MnSCU Campuses for participation in Sun Microsystems, Inc. Educational Discount Program.The system office objective in making these agreements is to provide a readily available means for any MnSCU campus to participate in Sun Microsystems, Inc. Educational Discount Program.Sun Microsystems is the premier equipment manufacturer for Unix-based desktop systems, workstations, workgroup-servers, Enterprise-class Servers, Thin-clients and Internet appliances.Sun Microsystems produces the robust Solaris? Operating Environment. Solaris is preferred by 10 of 12 leading ISPs and is scalable from the desktop to supercomputer. Solaris is also available on the Intel Platform.All MnSCU campuses and the ten high-level domains, listed below, have been registered under this ScholarPAC III Agreement and will share a common Site ID number.*note: The MnSCU System-wide agreements will not exclude campuses with existing ScholarPAC agreements from using their own Site ID, nor does it preclude campuses from establishing their own ScholarPAC agreement in the future.

Many services are provided by Sun Microsystems, Inc. and its Applied Engineering, Inc., the Sun Authorized Campus Representative in MN. Applied Engineering, Inc. is contracted by Sun to be its exclusive vendor of Sun Hardware and Software in MN. Applied Engineering has a large staff of trained account managers and technicians to properly size and configure systems. Usually there is no charge for these services. Final quotations are provided by Sun and all Sun provided services and products are billed by Sun.Full training, on-site support, custom support, software programming, Contract systems administration, networking support and many other services are available. Contracts can de designed where one call to Sun Support will cover Sun Microsystems and its strategic partners such as Oracle and Varitas without the need to call multiple vendors.
