HR Module Rollout
Minnesota State colleges and universities ITS Division currently depends on a proprietary development language for development and maintenance of its client server ISRS application, including the AC module (Accounting). Uniface is no longer commonly used as a language for system development in the United States, and integrating Uniface applications with vendor provided application systems and tools is increasingly challenging. Concern is growing about the continuing viability of Uniface in the market place.
It is difficult to find IT experts with Uniface skills. As Uniface market share decreased, most developers began developing using newer languages such as J2EE. No “Uniface Developer” training programs/courses are currently available in the public sector college/university environment, and converting to a new platform helps ensure a supply of developers to replace staff as needed. Costs to continue using Uniface are escalating dramatically. Uniface licensing requires payment of a fee for each person accessing the ISRS system, and the vendor has increased the “per-user” cost of these licenses at a rapid pace. At the same time, the number of required Uniface licenses has escalated as the number of ISRS system users grows with additional functionality.
